When we reached NJP, our driver from BSB Exploration & Travels greeted us warmly. “Darjeeling jete ready toh? Aaj weather ekdom mist-free,” he said with a smile. The road slowly climbed through the hills. Clouds drifting across the road felt like welcome guests. We stopped at a small tea stall run by an elderly man... “Special? Darjeeling air + Himalaya water + Pahar’r mon. Ei tei cha special hoye jaay.” (This tea becomes special with the mountain’s heart.) Evening arrived with the lights of Darjeeling glowing like tiny stars. Check in at the Darjeeling hotel/homestay, provided by BSB Exploration & Travels. They greeted us warmly, and we sat with a cup of tea in our homestay balcony — and the mountains felt like home.
At 4 AM, the entire town was silent except the sound of cars heading to Tiger Hill. At the viewpoint, a little boy selling coffee said... And he was right. Kanchenjunga slowly turned golden. People went silent. It felt spiritual. Later, we visited the iconic Batasia Loop. A soldier there told us... Next, at Ghoom Monastery, a monk gently said... “Don’t rush. Darjeeling is not to be seen, it is to be felt.” After completing the early morning sightseeing, we were dropped back at the hotel/homestay to relax and enjoy a late breakfast. Evening at Mall Road was full of laughter, roasted corn, warm clothes, and fog slowly covering the lights.
After breakfast, our driver picked us up for the day's sightseeing. The morning began at the Himalayan Zoo. A group of school children whispered excitedly near the Red Panda enclosure... Next, we visited the magnificent Peace Pagoda (Japanese Temple)... Following this, we headed to Happy Valley Tea Garden... “Tea doesn’t grow from the plant… It grows from patience.” We then made an exhilarating stop at Tenzing Rock for a climb... (Optional Stop at Rock Garden): If time permits, the Rock Garden is an optional stop... “Darjeeling e eshe khali photo tule jaben? Ektu local taste-o nin.” After completing all the sightseeing, we were dropped back at the hotel/homestay for the night.
This day felt like walking into a storybook. We began by completing the check-out from our Darjeeling hotel/homestay. At Lamahatta Eco Park, we met an elderly couple who were planting flowers. The old man said... “Ei gachh gulo amader meyera’r moto… boro hoy, shobake shanti dei.” (These plants are like our daughters… they grow and give peace to everyone.) Next stop — Takdah... At Tinchuley View Point, clouds rose from the valley like soft smoke. Evening tea tasted sweeter because of the kindness we collected all day. Check in at the Mirik hotel/homestay for our overnight stay near the serene lake.
After breakfast, the drive to Mirik was magical as we began the day's sightseeing. At Simana View Point, standing on the India–Nepal border, a Nepali vendor joked... At Mirik Lake, a young boy with a horse came near us... Then came the heart-touching moment—At Gopal Dara Tea Estate, a tea plucker showed us how she works. When she placed fresh leaves in my hand, she said: “Ei patar moto manush hoon—naram, bhodro, shanti dey.” (Be like this leaf — soft, gentle, and giving peace.) We spent the evening enjoying the tranquility of the Mirik area.
As we packed, the homestay owner said: “Pahar chhere jawa mane… nijer ekta angsho chhere jawa.” (Leaving the hills means leaving a piece of yourself behind.) We completed the check-out from the hotel/homestay. On the drive back, our BSB driver said, “Next time Sandakphu try korben…” At NJP, we looked at the mountains one last time. They stood silent — like a friend waiting for us to return. We were dropped safely at NJP (New Jalpaiguri Railway Station), marking the end of our BSB journey.
